Friendly Warning—I get political and fiery in this post. I get angry. But keep reading. God eventually smacks me upside the head with His Truth.
Americans Protesting Again. Surprise, Surprise.
The same crowd who wouldn’t shut up about their self-engineered “insurrection” once again has chosen to side with the lawless, march for criminals, fight the police, destroy public property, and call for the death of ICE officers, elected officials, and the President himself.
I’m a world away, mind you, but the news breaking out of Minneapolis and Portland (again)—and other Democrat-run cities in America—is unceasing. Whenever I’m on X, at least, which is way too much.
And why? This time, because a woman allowed her deranged sense of justice morph into terrorism, her screams became violent action, and she was shot and killed as a result. Leftist pundits and politicians continue the liar’s cry of “Murder!” yet deep down, we all know the truth, because we’ve seen the videos and we know the history.
“O What a Tangled Web”
Enforcement of immigration laws is not illegal. Trump is not a dictator. ICE is not the Gestapo. Interfering with law enforcement—especially with violence—will absolutely incur repercussions. It’s common sense, which too many of our citizens willingly lack.
The same delusional monsters who cheered at Charlie Kirk’s assassination not 3 months ago now weep and riot over the death of a domestic terrorist. The same side that ignored Laken Riley, Iryna Zarutska, and countless others murdered by known yet free-walking criminals now weep and protest because ICE shot two TdA-affiliated terrorists attempting vehicular homicide of other ICE agents. Our nation is morally twisted, and most can’t tell which way is up.
You’ve seen the list of criminals that ICE has arrested, right? The abusers, murderers, and child rapists—demonic individuals that Frey and Walz call “our neighbors.” From their own greedy, dark hearts, they try to appeal to the inhumanity of deportation, all the while ignoring (and thereby encouraging) the vile sexual crimes and larceny committed right under their noses in their sanctuary state. It’s unfathomable.
Fire from Heaven
Occasionally, I find myself wishing that God would just end it—I mean, these hooligans love fire so much, why can’t God just send a little more down to finish their work?
It’s terrible of me, right? Not very Christian! But I get so tired of the lawlessness, and I wonder when we’ll finally see this promised repayment: “Vengeance is mine: I will repay, says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)
But before you write me off as a hate-filled hypocrite, know that this gut-reaction idea of praying for God’s swift vengeance against his enemies isn’t original with me. In fact, the disciples themselves spoke such words to Jesus when a Samaritan village once rejected him. Check out Luke 9:51-56:
51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53 But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”
Whoa! My kindred spirits! But then note Jesus’s response—including his words, which the ESV says are found in some manuscripts:
55 But he turned and rebuked them. “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of; 56 for the Son of Man came not to destroy people’s lives but to save them.” And they went on to another village.
A Massive Slap in the Face
When I read this chapter aloud during family devotions this morning, this passage slapped me in my face. I had to read it twice.
I then had to confess to my wife and kids my own sinful thoughts. “I feel this way sometimes about the lawlessness and evil I see in America,” I told them. Sure, I can tell myself that these thoughts stem from so-called “righteous indignation”, but they also seek the death of the wicked! (Ezekiel 33:11)
“But, Wow!” I continued, “Look at how Jesus responds to them. He rebukes them—and He’s rebuking me—and says that with gut-reactions like these, we ‘don’t know what kind of Spirit we are.’ Man, I’m not paying attention the Holy Spirit that’s in me when I respond this way. ‘Jesus didn’t come to destroy people’s live but to save them.’ That is a powerful, powerful reminder.”
And it is. The protestors love to call “Shame! Shame! Shame!” to ICE officers who are simply enforcing the law—and I’ll stand with those officers all day long—but I’m going to let those protestor’s words sink into me for a moment.
- Shame on me, a Christ-follower, for getting so pissed at the Left that I wish them harm.
- Shame on me for letting videos and images and news—not the Word of God—dictate my feelings.
- Shame on me for dwelling more on America’s sin than on God’s mercy, grace, and love.
The God of Vengeance and Justice…and of Mercy, Grace, and Love
My God is so patient, “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2Peter 3:9) I need that exact same heart. The people peppering our streets in protest are, at many levels, my enemies. The reality is we’ll never come to terms and “agree to disagree”—unless God intervenes.
But Jesus says explicitly that I need to love my enemies (Matthew 5:43-48). I need to pray for my enemies. I need to bless my enemies, do good to my enemies, and feed my enemies (Romans 12:14-21).
It’s a bitter pill to swallow, as I see my enemies once again embrace the darkness, besmirch the light, and promote lawlessness in my home country, but it’s the command of Jesus. It’s the example of Jesus who went so far as to let his own enemies vilify, arrest, convict, torture, and murder Him.
And why? Because of the great with which He loved them—with which He loves us (Ephesians 2:1-10). That’s my example to follow.

I really like the honesty of your reactions. Bold to admit them and humble to embrace the Word of God. If we walk in the spirit of God, all that could have been avoided. Essentially, God is the center of all and the Healer of all hurt.
