I began this site eleven years ago, and I’m a little shocked that I’ve stuck with it this long! This year the site clocked it’s 300,000th hit, which is massive yet at the same time tiny, considering that’s about how many hits “Dude Perfect” gets per video each and every launch day.
But who’s comparing?
I’m sort of a numbers guy, so here’s some quickies that I found interesting:
- With a launch date of roughly June 2011, the site’s 900th book review means that I’ve averaged about 6.5 book reviews per month since the beginning. With the uptick in my reading habits since 2020, I’ve actually averaged 8.4 per month over the past 3 years.
- The site’s 311k hits averages out to about 345 hits per book review, so that’s something. I just hope people are reading the most worthwhile posts I’ve got instead of, I don’t know, those about Clive Cussler or James Bond.
- Unsurprisingly, my top four decades for publications read and reviewed are as follows: 2001-2010 (235 books), 2011-2020 (181 books), 1991-2000 (116 books), and 1981-1990 (99 books.)
- I’ve also used this site to publish 25 essays so far (or articles or sermon notes—whatever you want to call them).
- This year alone, I’ve read 39 books with my family, which is possible only because we’ve kept 8-9pm a sacred hour each night to read a book, read the Word, and pray together. I highly recommend every family do the same.
I’m looking forward to what the next 100 reads will bring and the joys of celebrating a “millennium” of books read and reviewed! Of course, I’d much rather people read actual books than some schlub’s opinions about them, but still. Thanks for reading, and I hope that my from-the-gut reviews have helped you along the reading path, at least in some small way.
Until next time, Happy Reading.
