Considering how many books a person can read in a lifetime, I know that this number might seem small, as will ‘900’ or ‘1000’, whenever I get to them. Still, 800 book reviews is a milestone for me and one worth celebrating.
Since the beginning of 2020, I have been pursuing my Ed.D. and have thus kept my nose deep in the journals and textbooks of my field. I’ve also been working at and teaching in my church each week, staying close to the Word and studying it regularly. Further, I’ve accepted a new position within my organization that requires lots of remote communication and will require even more travel in the coming years.
Through all this, I’m still a husband and father who loves spending time with and reading to my family. I remain an avid advocate for hobbying and doing what you love, while researching it along the way. Plus, I still love to read the novels and stories and other random books that appeal to me, and sharing my thoughts about them all.
I don’t know if I can blame COVID or sheer gumption on my part, but this past year (2021) was my most prolific year to date, with 123 book reviews published and even more books read. I have elsewhere posted my Top 5 Fiction Reads, my Top 5 Non-fiction Reads, and my Top 5 Christian Books for 2021, so I won’t repeat all that here.
Instead, to give you an overview of what you can find on this site, I’d like to break down my reading preferences into the simplest of categories.
Christian vs. Secular Book Reviews:
Christian Books – 416
Secular Books – 384
Non-fiction vs. Fiction Book Reviews:
Non-fiction Books – 360
Fiction Books – 440
Book Reviews by the Centuries:
Books published since 2001 – 383
Books published between 1901-2000 – 394
Books published 1900 or earlier – 23
I’ve still got a stack of about 20 books I’ve finished in the past few months waiting for review, though it takes more time than you might think to write conscientiously. I’m grateful to my readers and hope that the insights form this Christian father can help you choose your next book wisely. Whatever you choose, though, never forget these wise words from the Prince of Preachers:
