“The problem with you Americans is that you don’t believe in evil…but I believe that evil forces make evil men do evil things.” ~ Dr. Eli Mordechai, (279-281)
A fiery aerial attack on the Presidential Motorcade as it snakes its way down the darkened Colorado interstate—these very first images sketched by Joel C. Rosenberg in The Last Jihad (the first novel is his five-book political thriller series) will forever be etched into my brain. This single scene transformed my young, movie-loving brain into the ravenous book-eater it has since become, all thanks to the talents of Mr. Rosenberg, perhaps my favorite fiction writer (and a Christian to boot).
The series follows Jonathan Bennett, a high-class yet shadow-dwelling market advisor and former Wall Street colleague of America’s current President, James MacPherson. With uniquely expert precision for a first-time fiction author, Rosenberg carefully unfolds the earliest stages of his extended plot by keeping his readers as “in the dark” about the U.S. Intelligence goings-on as Bennett is himself, until he ignites the truth at what seems to be the very last second. His action-packed writing will hook you in this first installment, and will hopefully drag you along to the exciting conclusion of this should-be-a-miniseries adventure.
Perhaps it’s necessary to note that, although this is a Christian book, it does contain some mild (dare I say, “true to life”) language. Still, I would (and often do) recommend Rosenberg’s work to anyone who needs to kick back with an intense political action-thriller. Happy reading!
