More than a decade ago, I built an MP3 playlist on my computer for my personal edification: 700+ songs that reference the Bible organized from Genesis to Revelation. I still add to it from time to time, and right now it’s more than 50 hours long.

While I’m definitely not going to share that playlist in a blog format, one theme from all that music keeps ringing in my ears: MISSIONS.

For years I’ve longed to compile a list of great missionary songs, and I’ve finally taken the plunge. In this post, you’ll find 50 Great Songs about Missions.

Before I introduce each song, let me share a few caveats:

• Great Songs: These are “great” songs. Never believe bloggers who share “the best” of anything—tastes are too relative for that.
  
• Evangelical Songs: As best as I can figure, these songs are all written for and by Evangelical Christians. Too many missionary-centric lists out there contain songs for and by LDS missionaries. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the wrong place—and maybe be heading to the wrong place too.
  
• Thematic Lists: Besides the Children’s category at the end, I’ve organized these songs thematically: Jesus — The Gospel and the Kingdom
  Consecration — The Heart and the Mind
  Willingness — The Need and the Going
  
• Musical Styles: The lyrics in these great songs should bless Christians from all traditions, no matter the musical style, but I know that preferences differ. The songs on this list range across the musical spectrum, but no offense is intended. That being said, I’ve selected YouTube renditions that I personally enjoyed (with lyrics whenever possible). If you don’t like the style, simply search the title for something more to your liking.
