500th Book Review

With the publication of my Mosquito Coast review, I’m proud to report that I’ve reached the half-kilo benchmark! When I began this process in July 2011, I wasn’t really sure where it’d take me. I never intended to garner a massive following (Check!) but rather to provide the random consumer and student with an honest opinion about a given book from a Christian perspective (Check! again, I trust).

Since completing my 400th post seventeen months ago, I’ve noticed an interesting dip in my reading habits: far fewer Christian non-fiction titles and far more secular fiction titles than I had reviewed previously. One major reason for this has been my teaching schedule, which for a large portion of 2017 centered on the Firm Foundations curriculum, leaving me little opportunity for other research and more of a desire to “escape” through novels. Also, I had promised a buddy of mine that I would join him in re-reading Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt Adventures, which accounted for a hefty percentage of my posts this time around.

While I’ve maintained my more-than-6-books-per-month average, I must note that this is not necessarily six books that I’ve finished reading this month, but rather books that I’ve found the time finally to review. I still have another hundred or so stored up for a rainy day, but life has a way of stealing my writing time.

I’ve enjoyed visits to my site from authors like Philip Yancey and Tony Reinke and am always appreciative when readers share their views and comments—even if they’re a bit misguided. I hope to continue this habit of sharing my honest opinion of books for as long as I can read and write, and I thank you all for stopping by.
